History

Ptolmey- The Geographer
The history of Agra dates back to the Mahabharata times when it was called Agrabana or paradise. It has got a place on the world map by Ptolemy, the famous geographer of the 2nd century AD. 

Many of the monuments in and around Agra that we see today were built during the reign of Akbar and Shahjahan. 

The Agra Fort, Taj mahal and Fatehpur sikri , all three of which are UNESCO World Heritage sites, keeps the city a busy tourist destination.
The Mughal emperor Babur established his capital here in 1526.



Agra city is lively and there are number of places to eat and stay. This city has 9 five star hotels.


How to reach Agra  

Yamuna Expressway or Taj Expressway is recently opened on 15 august 2012 which is 165 km long and six lane expressway which starts from Noida.

A private car takes only 2 hrs to reach Agra from Noida. 

The NH2 streching about 253 km connects Delhi and Agra. 
A car takes 5 hrs to reach Agra from Delhi from NH2.
A bus takes 6 Hrs to reach Agra.

Agra Cantt Railway station also has continous train services from Delhi to Agra. 

The Delhi Agra flight takes only 40 minutes to reach Agra.

Agra airport is only 7 km away from city.

Agra do not have good bus transport. So its better to hire a taxi to do sightseeing.

Taj mahal is spellbinding white marble beauty and one of the most elegant masterpieces of architecture.
Listed as the seventh wonder  of the world, this perfectly symmetrical dream in marble is located in the city Agra on the banks of river Yamuna.The lasting monument to love, Taj mahal was built by the Mughal Emperor, Shah jahan in memory of his second wife, Mumtaj Mahal, a Persian princess. The construction of Taj mahal was started in 1631 and took 22 years. Twenty thousand people from India, Central Asia and Europe were deployed to work on it.

Agra Fort    


      

Close to the gardens of Tajmahal lies this important Mughal monument also known as Red fort of Agra. It is located 2.5 km nothwest of the Tajmahal. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage site.



The construction of the expansive red sandstone fort and Palace on the bank of river Yamuna was started by Emporer Akbar in 1565. It comprises many fairy tale palaces, like the Jahangir Palace and the Khas Mahal, built by Shahjahan.
It is the most important fort in India and it housed the largest state treasury and mint. 




Fatehpur Sikri


This magnificant city of historical importance, 40 km from west of Agra, was constructed by the Mughal emporer Akbar and it served as the empire's capital from 1571 until 1585. Although a brilliant Indo Islamic masterpiece, the city was abandoned shortly after Akbar's death, due to severe water shortage. 


Fatehpur Sikri has lot to offer travellers and major tourist attractions include the Anup Talao, Buland Darwaja(Gate of Magnificence), Diwan-i-Am(Hall of public ), Diwan-i-Khas (hall of private), Panch Mahal, Raja Birbal's house and Tomn of Saikh Salim Chisti and many more. 



Itmad-ud-Daula

Often described as 'jewel box', the Imad-ud-Daulah, is where Mirza Ghiyas Beg, who got the title Itmad-ud-Daulah was laid to rest finally. He served as the Chief Minister of the Mughal emperor Jehangir.


Although a smaller size, the monument deserves to be regarded as a 'draft' of the Taj mahal with its astounding beauty.

11 FEB 2015 

1 - Metro rails in Agra 

ADA officers and team of architects did survey of MG road for starting the construction of Metro. It will take next six months to finalize the route plan of Metro in Agra. Ada cheif town planner Mr Ishtiyak Ahmed and draftsman Ashok Sahani went on Agra tour to make the route map. 
They did the inspection of these roads, Sanjay place, bypass, sikandra, bodla, fatehpur sikri road, samshabad road, fatehabad road, yamuna kinara. 
If metro starts in Agra it will improve the traffic. People would not have to wait long for buses and autos. 

2 - 24 hrs light supply in Agra

Energy Minister Kripal singh (sapa) came to to Agra and announced that Agra will get 24 hrs light supply from next year october. They are making a 765 kv capability light station at fatehabad road. He gave the guidelines to the officers of Agra. This light station will be built with latest technology. 

3 - Petroling near Tajmahal

Agra police will do petroling near Tajmahal on their bycycles. 500 meter area of Tajmahal is no pollution zone. On tuesday, S.S.P Rajesh .D.Modak started 15 bycycle squad. Agra is a tourist city so the protection of this city is importatnt. 

4 - Agra a smart city

 Mayor of Agra. Mr Indrajit Arya went to Hyderabad on three days seminar for making Agra city a smart city. He will get in-depth knowledge about how to make Agra a smart city.  

5 - Tajmahal by sand

Famous uddiyan artist Sudarshan patnayak is coming to Agra on 14th feb 2015.  Mr Patnayak will make model of Tajmahal by sand in Taj nature walk. He will stat making clay model of Tajmahal from Wednesday.  To make this clay model of Tajmahal few trucks of sand has been stored at Tajnature walk.  Tourist officer Mr Dinesh Kumar said this clay model of Tajmahal would be the tourist attraction for everyone.  

6 -   English play"Meharnama" in Agra tour 

Welcome theater is going to start a play "Meharnama" at 8:15 pm in Hotel Mughal sheraton, Agra. 
In this play of two hours they will show the life of Mughal empire's three kings. In this English play from life of Mughal emperor Akbar to Shahjanha-Mumtaj's love story's thrilled storeis will be shared.  
Famous theater artist Amir Raja Hussain and Virat Hussain will direct this play. In this show He has shown the female politics of Mughal empire. How these ladies used to run the India  behind the curtains. These ladies finalized the destiny of India.(India Tour)

Mehruun nisa was the name of "Noorjahan". She was the most powerful queen of India. Her name was written on coins. 

7 -Sark literature Festival  

Under the flag of Foundation of SARK Writers and Literature, the foreign ministry is organizing, Sark literature Festival . This festival will start on 13th of Feb in Agra at Tajnagri. Once again in Town, sark poets, writers, storytellers, local artist will meet with each other. In this period they will discuss on poems- society, literature and common problems of society. This information has been given by president of Foswal and famous writer Ajeet Kaur. She said cultural programmers of south asian countries will be conducted in the Sur sadan.  
Event manager co ordinator Vivek Jain said that sessions of poems will continue for four days in Hotel Grand.
