HISTORY

Sandeep Kumar - Tour escort
Prior to the year 1839 the place was covered with a dense forest, only resorted by the herdsmen of the surrounding villages who brought their cattle there during the hot weather and rains for the abundant forage pasturage of the valley.

In 1841 Mr P. Barron, an European merchant and enthusiastic hunter from Rosa, near Shahjahanpur discovered Nainital.

As the time passed on, Nainital captured the attention of the British. The British government in India was quick to patronise the place and developed it to what it is today.

MYTHOLOGY

Lord Shiva & His wife goddess Parvati
The name "Naini" came from the legend Parwati story. She is a goddess and wife of Lord Shiva.  Goddess Parwati got crashed into the high flames of the yagna fire to end her life. And later Lord Shiva retrieved her half charred corpse himself.

People say that the eyes of the sati (Parvati) dropped into the lake while her body was being carried away by the lord Shiva to Kailash parwat. Hence the lake was given the name of "Nainital" or Naini Lake.

Where to stay -

Hotel  "The Naini Retreat" is a very good heritage hotel. I stayed over there for three days with my group of 60 people. During my stay I found their staff is well trained and experienced. Rooms are very comfortable. Service is quick. Food quality is also good.

My Diary

Day 1 -

It is 6:00 am and we are at Ram nagar, actually we have crossed it.   And now we are at Kashipur bridge. People are doing  morning walk over here. What a view. In metropolitan city you can not have such a nice morning walk. Just imagine you are walking besides a very clean and calm  river. A perfect start of a very beautiful morning.

Now we are heading towards Nainital. After driving  two km. Now we can see wonderful sunrise.I have not seen such a red sun ever before. It is very close to me. I feel i can touch it.Now we have entered into the area of famous Jim Corbett National Park. It is a very narrow road and our bus is moving at speed of only 40 km/hrs.
On both side of road we are enjoying green forest, pure green forest and added feature is beautiful colorful small houses or cottages of locales. My fingers are crossed if I can see a tiger crossing the road.
Now most exciting part of Nainital has started, Snake roads. Our bus is moving like a snake on the hills.
I have started feeling that I have born to travel hilly areas. Over here I get a chance to explore myself.
Peace is the key over here. No sounds of traffic. No crowds, very calm atmosphere.

8:30 AM

We Have reached are hotel "Naini Retreat". I distributed the keys of rooms of my group and announced the further tour plan to them. After that they went to have breakfast and for rest.

11:00 AM

Its a sunny day & Team building activities have been started by Mr Suheen who is the manager of Erricsson team.  I am watching them from a side table and writing this article

Sandeep Kumar

My group is playing team building games, they are laughing and sharing jokes and having fun.
Watching people so happy is making my day great. Although its a sunny day still cool air is blowing but I am feeling very warm under the sun and peaceful by soul.
The view in front of me is awesome. Sky is pure blue but yes not exactly deep blue as I saw in Lahole spiti or in Leh -ladakh. But you cannot ignore its beauty. I can see few small white cemented houses of common people at the peak of mountains.
This particular view has two aspects - one - that man has reached so far and destroying the beauty of natural places like Nainital.
Second  - This view gives me inspiration to try hard for my goals which seems sometimes unachievable.
Day Two
 10:00 am

After having breakfast we went for adventure activities at Khurpataal. Our adventure activity coordinator Mr Baali was already there with his team.
We did Rock climbing, Repelling and fox climbing.

Sandeep Kumar
Adventure activities are my favorite time pass at hills. At 3:00 pm we came back to hotel and after having lunch my group was free for sightseeing on their own and for me it was the time to sleep in my five star sweet    ha ha ha ha
